Ecclesiastes 3:11

I woke up this morning with this verse on my mind. I thought about God’s omniscience. He is all knowing, from eternity to eternity. It is hard for me to grasp this concept since I tend to think in terms of a beginning and an end. But God isn’t like us. He knows all that has been and will ever be. He has put the desire for eternity in each of our hearts. He has created in us a desire for so much more than this world has to offer. The world competes for our attention. It is so easy to become distracted and caught up in the things we see around us. Colossians 3:2 says to “think about the things of Heaven, not the things of the earth”. And 2 Corinthians 4:18 reminds us to not fixate on the the momentary troubles we are experiencing, but to “fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen”. We may not fully understand what is happening, and certainly cannot know into the future what will happen, but we have a longing for eternal life. It is up to us where we will spend our eternity. The Bible says we have been given a choice. “Choose you this day whom you will serve”. Today, when you feel overwhelmed and burdened, pause and remember “our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. They are producing for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever”. (2 Corinthians 4:17)
