I’m going through Proverbs with some friends from Bible study using the First5 app. Today’s message from Lyli Dunbar was so moving. She pointed out that wisdom guards our lives against external opposition and inner turmoil. I love this. How often do we get caught up in the mess around us. Overthinking is something I do well. This is not a good thing. My thoughts take me places that I have no business camping out in. I over analyze a situation or a conversation and make myself nuts. The crazy train takes me far away from God’s peace. Listening to today’s message I realized that to walk in God’s ways of wisdom is is to continuously abide in His peace. That’s where I want to be. I never want to leave. One practice of remaining in His peaceful protection is to continuously take our thoughts captive according to 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. We must not let them be in control. How many nights do we spend awake going over what happened or what could possibly happen? Such a waste of precious time. God has given us blessings if we follow the path of wisdom and one is sweet sleep. Lyli expands on this in her message and relays a story of how her family would say “sleep sweet” every night before going to bed. Think about this. God does not want us to stay awake worrying about anything. He does not want us rehashing the events of our day long into the night. He knows how important it is for us to get a good night’s sleep. So the next time you find yourself awake worrying, fearful, or allowing your thoughts to take over, take every thought captive and give them to God.
