Offense Verses

Offense

“Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life.”

‭‭James‬ ‭1:19-21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

May I not go searching through the garbage as though searching for lost treasure. May I leave once and for all that which has been tossed out. No more digging out the sins that have been removed from my life. No more desiring them to be restored. May I not give them a place to grow and flourish.

“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.”

‭‭James‬ ‭1:19‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving];”

‭‭James‬ ‭1:19‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, But he who repeats or gossips about a matter separates intimate friends.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:9‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Overlook an offense and bond a friendship; fasten on to a slight and—good-bye, friend!”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:9‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap. For the one who sows to his flesh [his sinful capacity, his worldliness, his disgraceful impulses] will reap from the flesh ruin and destruction, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6:7-9‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6:7-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.

So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6:7-10‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“A mean person gets paid back in meanness, a gracious person in grace.”

“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Now [remember] this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows generously [that blessings may come to others] will also reap generously [and be blessed].”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:6‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“Remember: A stingy planter gets a stingy crop; a lavish planter gets a lavish crop. I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over, and make up your own mind what you will give. That will protect you against sob stories and arm-twisting. God loves it when the giver delights in the giving.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:6-7‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:12-14‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“bearing graciously with one another, and willingly forgiving each other if one has a cause for complaint against another; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so should you forgive.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭AMP‬‬
