Matthew 19:6 “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Mark 10:7-9 ” ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Ephesians 5:28-29 “In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church.”
In marriage we are joined as one with our spouse. This is a lifelong commitment that is not intended to be broken. We dishonor God’s purpose for marriage when we view it as something that can be discarded or replaced. We are not to look for someone new if our spouse becomes undesirable to us in some way. Just as we would not replace a part of our bodies if a sickness or injury occurs, we are not to trade in our spouse when trouble comes. We must stand together as one. Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
CHALLENGE: Today seek to meet a need for your spouse. Something selfless that says you cherish and appreciate them.
