Yesterday we learned how to express love through our words, either by speaking the truth in love, or by holding our tongue. Today we will learn how to put love into action. Four ways to show love are:
By being gentle – carefully considering how our actions and words are coming across. Being sensitive and tender, especially when discussing hard topics.
By being helpful – meeting the needs of the moment. Seeing what needs to be accomplished and getting right to it, instead of waiting to be asked, or for someone else to take care of it. When we are serving with kindness as our motivator, we don’t worry about whether our needs are being met. We seek to bless others regardless of what comes back to us.
Willingness – this takes the form of being agreeable, flexible, and cooperative.
Showing initiative – taking the first step, without being asked, prompted, or nagged. Initiative doesn’t require others to act first.
Today we learn to show love, not based on our feelings, but because it is the right thing to do, even if there seems to be no reward.
CHALLENGE: In addition to saying nothing negative, do at least one unexpected gesture as an act of kindness.
Proverbs 3:3-4 “Do not let kindness and truth leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man.”
Proverbs 31:26 “She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”
