Love Dare Day 24 – Love vs. Lust

Lust means to set your heart and passions on something forbidden. Lust moves us away from fellowship with God. It is a misguided thirst for satisfaction that only God can fulfill. Lust can take the form of another person/relationship, or in material possessions. We believe the lie that we would be happy if only we had …..

James 4:1-3 “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

1 Timothy 6:9-11 “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.”

God has promised to supply us with everything we need.  Philippians 4:19 “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”

1 Timothy 6:7-8 “For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.”

Read also Matthew 6:25-33 and 2 Peter 1:3-4.

As God’s children our hearts should be turned toward Him.  1 John 2:15-17 “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”

CHALLENGE:  Remove all objects of lust from your life. Replace these with God’s promises and a heart filled with His perfect love.
