We are personally responsible for keeping ourselves right with God and with others. In marriage, we must continually have a humble heart before our spouse. Confession of sins is a must. Acknowledging our mistakes isn’t easy, and requires us to resist acting out of our pride. We may not like what our spouse is revealing to us concerning our words or behavior, but it probably is worth listening to and considering. Proverbs 17:10 says “Rebuke is more effective for a wise man than a hundred blows on a fool”. This means we will be considered wise if we truly pay attention to what our spouse is saying. Love never makes excuses for bad behavior. It doesn’t pass the blame on to others. It takes full responsibility and seeks to make amends as quickly as possible. Love desires to have a right relationship with both God and others.
1 John 1:8 “If we say we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us”.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.
*** In order to have a right relationship with God and to keep His favor, you must stay clean before Him.
James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
1 Peter 3:7 “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”
CHALLENGE: Pray and ask God to reveal any sin in your life and then confess that sin, asking for forgiveness. Then confess any sins you may have done to your spouse. Ask them for forgiveness. Do this with sincerity and a spirit of love and repentance.
