Nothing tears apart a relationship faster than selfishness. It is the motivator for our sinful actions. The world we live in encourages us to focus on ourselves above others. Our needs should be met before anyone else’s.
The Bible teaches us that “love does not seek its own” (1 Corinthians 13:5). We are either making decisions based on love for others or love for ourselves. When we operate out of love, we say “no” to what we want and “yes” to what others want. We place others’ happiness above our own.
Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.”
CHALLENGE: Today’s challenge suggests buying something for our spouse that says “I was thinking of you today”. However, I suggest that doing something nice, putting their choice of restaurant or dinner choice first, or watching their favorite TV show with them, would be a good way to demonstrate love.
