In a world where marriage isn’t considered “until death do we part”, we are given the idea that it is OK to stop loving our marriage partner. But if we are operating from God’s standards, we have to consider what real love is. Love is eternal. Love is never-ending. Love is unstoppable. Love chooses to extend love when nothing is returned.
1 Corinthians 13:8 “Love never fails.”
Let’s now consider love from Jesus’ viewpoint when He was facing death. His disciples committed to standing by His side even when everyone else abandoned Him. We read of Peter declaring his devotion to Jesus, but quickly denying knowing Him. (Matthew 26:31-35, 69-75) Jesus never stopped loving His disciples. The reason is because His love never changes. Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
We too can experience this unchanging love. Because the Holy Spirit who lives in all believers is the source of love, we are able to love continuously without end. We make the choice to love our spouse no matter what.
CHALLENGE: Write a letter of commitment to your spouse. Tell them why you are committing to your marriage and that you are going to love them no matter what.
