Love Dare Day 6 – Love is not Irritable

How hard are you to offend?  How quickly do you forgive?  Are you easily irritated and offended?  Do you live your life locked, loaded, and ready to react?   Or do you pause and give space between yourself and the situation?  The minor problems you face each day should not result in overreacting.

Think about what is coming out of your life.  The Bible speaks of being sure to put God’s word in our hearts so that what comes out will be the fruit of the spirit.

Today’s devotional points out two contributing factors that affect our reactions:  stress and selfishness. Stress affects us physically by draining our energy, weakening our health, and causing unnecessary conflicts. Selfishness is more of a problem of the heart.  We must be totally satisfied with Jesus and the position He has placed us in. If we are looking around us at what other people have or are doing, we tend to compare our lives with theirs and become lustful, bitter, greedy, and prideful.

When we are living our lives out of love, we will be grateful instead of greedy, content instead of unsatisfied and always wanting more, happy for the success of others instead of envious.

CHALLENGE:  Choose to react to tough circumstances in loving ways instead of with irritation.
