One of my favorite things is to purge my house of any unnecessary things. Clutter really does take over if we let it. We have all heard that the more we have, the more we must maintain. I do not want to be tied down to my possessions. I love a clean house, but I do not like being a slave to my things. It is much easier to clean when there is less to keep up with. I have a friend who has made a business of helping others purge and organize their homes. God does this in our lives. He helps us to identify and remove each sin that has taken up residency in our lives. I am on a mission to permanently remove everything that does not promote holiness. Anything that does not look like Jesus must go. Let’s envision the neighborhood bulky item pick up and toss to the curb anger, bitterness, jealousy, worry, fear, complaining. We have no use for them anymore. If it keeps others from seeing Jesus in you, get rid of it. Ephesians 4:22 “throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception “. Verse 24 tells us to replace those sins with His new nature which looks like Christ. Colossians 3:5 says to “put to death all sins”. Not pack them away for later, just in case you might need them again someday. No! Those old jeans do not fit you anymore. Why are you hanging onto them? Toss them to the curb. 1 Peter 1:14-16 shows us the new way we are to live. Go read this! Be holy because He is holy. Really, is there any other way for us to live our lives in ways that are pleasing to Him? Join me in pursuing holiness 💕
Praising God this morning for His wisdom. How grateful I am that He shares with us wisdom for without it we would be truly lost. Imagine trying to find your way without a map or GPS. No internet access. No phone connection. Just wandering aimlessly around with no idea where you are going. God’s Word is our lifeline. To receive His instructions we must stay connected to Him. Father, thank you for guiding us through Your Word. Thank you for speaking truth to our hearts.
My heart is breaking this morning from my husband sharing the news of yet another broken marriage. I have received so many reports of how the enemy is destroying families. This saddens me so much. It also stirs within me a strong desire to bring before The Lord our friends and families to plead for a hedge of protection over them. I specifically pray Colossians 1:9 often. Praying the Word of God is to pray His will over our lives. We stand in agreement with Him. We are assured that He hears us. We bring ourselves into alignment with Him. What a powerful place to be. Join me in praying this today, and everyday. We are in a battle. But we do not stand from a place of defeat. We are victorious in Him.
I am really looking forward to Fall. I think it is my favorite time of year. The weather turns cooler which is such a relief from the extreme Texas heat. Leggings start to make their way out of storage. Sweaters come out of the closets. And we may even have the windows open letting in a cool breeze. We can finally begin to decorate for the holiday season. Christmas is just a few short months away. Fall has so many wonderful colors. I love seeing the oranges and different shades of greens. How can we not love Fall?
As I think of all these changes I am reminded of how God brings about change in our lives. He is so merciful to not leave us in our sin. He moves us toward a closer relationship with Him by helping us become more and more Christlike. Our old selves fade away as we take on Christ’s character of forgiveness and mercy. We learn to use self control instead of being quick to anger. Our tongues are tamed as we yield to the Holy Spirit.
Today let’s allow His gentle guidance to work changes in us that will make us more like Him. “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”
Romans 8:29 NLT2 Corinthians
My childhood house is for sale again. Oh how I loved growing up there. We were the first owners. My parents made some improvements to the yard and added a pool. But for the most part it remained as we bought it. Now thanks to the internet I am able to see inside every room. Oh the changes that have taken place. Some good and some, well not so good. At least not to my taste. The extra windows are a good improvement that allow more light and viewing of the beautiful hill country. There is an extra door leading to the backyard that I can see as a good thing. But the Brady Bunch orange kitchen! Nope. Nope. Nope. I love the Brady Bunch and am really enjoying HGTV’s renovations, but I don’t want to live there. And someone decided to shorten the steps to the front door. There were originally 36 steps from curb to door. I was engaged on those steps. I have lots of memories on them. Even one of falling down several. Ouch. So to see the shorter staircase I am not too thrilled. All this to say, I am so thankful we serve a God who does not change. He is always the same. He is always reliable. Always on time. Always has our best interest in mind. Is always for us, never against us. What an amazing thought. What great comfort in an ever changing world.
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Lord we are so grateful that You are working out plans that are for our good. We praise You for knowing the deepest desires of our hearts. You are omniscient, all knowing. You know before we do what we will be needing. And You know what ultimately will be best for our lives. I am so thankful for the ways our desires are met. Your plans far surpass our wildest dreams. We may think we know what we are needing or what we want, but in the end when we look back over our lives, we can see Your hand guiding us toward some things and away from others. Oh how grateful we are for this guidance. We are protected from things we had no idea would harm us. You also place in us a desire for following Your will for our lives. You gently lead us as a parent guides their child, holding their hand, walking beside them. May we learn to follow You and not run ahead. May we learn to listen to Your still small voice speaking truth to our hearts.
Father, I praise You for being able to provide for us everything we need throughout our lives. Whether it is a physical need (health, safety, financially, nourishment), or spiritually (becoming more like Christ in holiness), You will always provide for us. I pray that my children will be very aware of Your presence working in their lives. May they know that it is You who are working in them, providing for them, and guiding their lives. May they become more like Christ in their words and thoughts. I pray they will abound in every good work, giving You the glory for all they accomplish.
Our Father is more than able to meet every need that we have. His resources are endless. Today let’s praise Him for being fully ABLE. His knowledge of our circumstances far exceeds our limited perspective. Trust in Him for His timing and ways.
So far I’m loving “None Like Him” by Jen Wilkin. This morning as I was reading in Psalm 26, I took great comfort in the fact that our God has no limits. Our strength is very weak, especially during stressful times. Our patience runs out quickly at times. We come to the end of what we think we can handle. BUT. Only when we turn our “I can’ts” into “He can” do we find the strength to go on. I find that the only way to remain in His strength is to remain in His Word. Today I spent time reading these verses. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.””
Psalm 46:1-3, 10 NIV
